Corfu is the closest of the major Greek holiday islands to the UK, and one of the best connected. Its airport, Corfu International Airport “Ioannis Kapodistrias” (CFU), is just south of Corfu Town, so the island’s historic capital is only minutes away when you land. The runway runs alongside the Chalkiopoulos lagoon, and the low approach over the water is a favorite with plane-spotters at the Kanoni viewpoint.
Quick facts
- Flight time from the UK: about 3 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours 45 minutes, depending on your departure airport.
- Time difference: Greece is 2 hours ahead of the UK.
- Season: direct UK flights run mainly from spring to late October or early November. London Gatwick tends to keep flights later in the year than regional airports.
- Airport location: about 2–3 km from Corfu Town.
- Currency: euro (EUR).
- Mobile data: EU visitors can usually roam at home prices, but many UK mobile plans now charge a daily fee in Greece. Check your plan before you go, or buy a local data eSIM in advance, for example a Greece eSIM from Airalo (affiliate link).
Which UK airlines fly to Corfu?
Based on published schedules checked on October 8, 2026:
- Jet2 and TUI together cover the widest range of UK airports, from London to Manchester, Birmingham, the East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Glasgow and beyond. TUI flights are mainly for package holidays, with spare seats sold as flight-only.
- easyJet flies from London Gatwick and several regional airports, including Bristol, Manchester and Liverpool.
- Ryanair serves Corfu from London Stansted and a number of regional airports.
- British Airways flies seasonally from London Gatwick and Heathrow.
Many regional routes start in May and operate only a few times a week. Check the airline’s timetable for your airport and dates.
When are flights cheapest?
Fares are usually lowest in the shoulder months, from April to May and in October, when the island is green, walking weather is pleasant and the sea is warm enough for swimming by late spring. July, August and the UK school holidays are the most expensive, especially at weekends. Midweek departures are often cheaper.
Transfer times from the airport
Corfu is larger than it looks on the map, and its roads are winding. Approximate driving times in normal traffic:
| Destination | Approx. time by car |
|---|---|
| Corfu Town | 10–15 minutes |
| Perama and Benitses | 10–20 minutes |
| Gouvia, Dassia and Ipsos | 20–35 minutes |
| Glyfada and Agios Gordios (west coast) | 30–40 minutes |
| Paleokastritsa | 40–45 minutes |
| Kassiopi (north-east) | About 1 hour |
| Sidari and Roda (north) | About 1 hour |
| Kavos (south) | About 1 hour |
Corfu Town’s blue urban buses link the airport with the town center. Green KTEL buses serve the resorts from the town’s bus station. With a late arrival, or heading to a resort an hour away, a taxi or pre-booked transfer is much easier. GetTransfer (affiliate link) lets you request a private transfer in advance and compare offers from local drivers. The airport has desks for the main car rental companies.
Which part of Corfu?
- Corfu Town: its Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with Venetian fortresses and the arcaded Liston promenade. It’s ideal for a short break or the first and last nights of a trip.
- North-east coast: Kassiopi, Kalami and Agios Stefanos have pebble coves and views across to Albania, and a quieter, upmarket feel.
- West coast: Paleokastritsa, Glyfada and Agios Gordios have dramatic scenery and some of the island’s best sandy beaches and sunsets.
- North coast: Sidari, Roda and Acharavi are busy family resorts.
- South: Kavos is known for nightlife, while the rest of the south is quieter and more rural.
Flying to Corfu in winter
Out of season, direct UK flights are limited. Check London Gatwick first, or fly to Athens and connect on a domestic flight of about an hour (Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air and Sky Express fly between Athens and Corfu). Ferries also link Corfu with Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland, a crossing of under two hours, and with several ports in Italy. Many resort hotels close in winter, while Corfu Town stays open year-round.
Day trips from Corfu
Boats run to the small islands of Paxos and Antipaxos, and in season fast ferries cross from Corfu Town to Saranda in Albania. Take your passport and check entry requirements for Albania first.
Booking tips
- Book school-holiday dates early. Low-frequency regional routes can sell out.
- Match your flight to your resort. An evening arrival with an hour’s drive to the north or south coast is tiring, especially with children.
- Compare flight-only and packages. UK package holidays that include flights are normally ATOL protected.
